Hi everyone,
I am so behind with my blog. It has been so busy and tiring between work and family. I gotta tell you the back to school event was a blast. My husband and I got to the school at 8 a.m. and the staff got to the school at 9 a.m. The water slide arrived at 8:30 a.m., volunteers got there at about 9:15 and parents and students began arriving at 9:40 a.m. The day ran so smoothly. As time progressed the staff came up with great ideas that helped the day run smoother. It was such an amazing team effort. The students enjoyed the water slide, food and games. The parents were provided community resources. We danced, sweated and enjoyed the fellowship. The principal and I have agreed to sit down when time permits to discuss what worked and what did not. Overall, the event was beneficial and the goal of the entire event is to build community among our staff, community, students and parents. I am looking forward to next year.
I must not forget that we were in the Commercial Appeal. Click the link to read about us. It is brief, but hey something is better than nothing.

Professional Development
Hey everyone,
It has been a week or so since I have blogged. I have been so busy within the last two weeks with professional development. It has been a great experience. We have learned about the different programs that will be implemented this school year to help our students succeed academically. Our team is revved up and we have proclaimed that this school year our students will be prepared for testing and will do exceeding well on the results. The professional development workshop that really touched my heart, of course, was the parenting initiative. During this workshop, we brainstormed ideas to involve our parents. We put our minds together to come up with many ways to engage them in the learning environment. A few ideas include: parent cells, introducotry letter, parental workshops, parent resource handbook, open house, room parents, just to name a few. Our first initiative was our back to school event, which I will tell you about that in the next blog post. One of the icebreakers that we participated in with our Instructional Facilitator was "Which Fruit Are You?" Well, I am a Melon, a person who does not waste time, a thinker, and a doer. It was a great activity for our staff to understand the differences in personalities and how we as a team can still implement are various opinions and work well together.
Almost forgot to mention that I did get the chance to present the school counseling program to the staff. I am in the process of putting together a school counseling advisory committee. The committee will serve as the voice for the department. We will meet and brainstorm ideas so that we can meet the needs of our students, parents and community. We have a few teachers that have signed up and I am glad about it. Teachers also completed a needs assessment about classroom guidance, topics and a few other things as well. The assessment will allow me to begin to meet the needs of our staff to make it a smooth year in the classroom.
Ohhhh, you know what I need to back up to registration. I had to work the kindergarten registration table and I had fun. It was a great time meeting the parents and the students. Our team worked together really well to pull off registration and it was a BULLDOG success.
I am looking forward to the first day of school and I know that it will be a productive school year. I am glad it is beginning so that I can put my routine in motion and I will make sure to blog about it.
To all educators, students and yes parents as well, I pray that your school year is blessed!
